Gregory Brown and Mitchell Moffit making waves in the digital education industry
University of Guelph grads Gregory Brown and Mitchell Moffit were recently honoured by Forbes when they were recognized as part of the American business magazine’s annual 30 Under 30 list in the education category.
The pair was selected from over 15,000 other nominees and are a part of the fractional 4 per cent of those who were accepted for the list. The Forbes 30 Under 30 list comprises 600 honorees in total, spread across 20 different categories, and is selected by a panel of experts in each field. This year’s list also included notable names such as actress Margot Robbie, social media star Kylie Jenner, and YouTube personality Tyler Oakley.
Brown and Moffit, creators of the educational science channel AsapSCIENCE on YouTube, have amassed a following of over 6 million subscribers since the creation of their channel in May 2012. Their weekly illustrated videos aim to educate the general public and get people interested in science in a fun way. They even started a second channel, AsapTHOUGHT, described as “Science with a social conscience,” which focuses on not only thought-provoking discussion topics, but personal vlogs about their daily lives, including their experiences as gay men.
The pair were recently invited back to their alma mater in November 2016 for an event put together by the College of Biological Science Student Council.
During the event, the pair shared anecdotes about their paths to success and humble beginnings at the University of Guelph, as well as meeting popular science educator Bill Nye.
