No need to choose function over fashion this season
As we enter the coldest months of the year, it is easy to say goodbye to fashionable looks in favour of keeping yourself from losing body parts to frostbite. However, this season has seen quite a few options that prove to be warm and look great at the same time.
First off, something that isn’t new at all in winter fashion is layering. Layers of plaids, denim shirts, light-weight knits, and oversized tees and sweatshirts have replaced wearing one thermal item.
As for the outer layer, there are a few styles making the rounds this winter. With classic looks like the Canada Goose parkas, or other streamlined winter jackets from Calvin Klein and Moose Knuckle Canada still in the mix, bomber jackets, leather moto jackets, and vintage denim have also been spotted all over Instagram. Top picks are coming in from Topshop, All Saints, and local vintage and thrift stores like The Patch.
Denim continues to be a staple in this season’s look, with a few variations gaining more popularity in the winter weather. Anything distressed, whether it is black, light washed, or anything in between has been killing it, with everyone from Sophia Bush to the barista at Starbucks rocking this look.

“Mom jeans” have also been making a major surge in popularity this season. Whether it’s a new pair from American Eagle or a worn-in version from Levi’s, the light-washed, high-waisted jean has been a go-to for many a cold weather woman.
For footwear, there have been several trends that have carried through into the winter season, as well as some returning favorites. Thanks to the lack of snow, Vans and Converse, as well as Nikes and Pumas, have still been making appearances into the new year.
On days with more seasonal weather, combat boots, like Doc Martens and Timberlands, have been keeping feet warm and dry, while also looking great.
Finally, for looks that call for a dressier shoe, ankle boots and boots with a chunkier heel have been really dominating the scene, providing weather appropriate comfort and style.
For accessories, blanket scarves are back in full swing, as well as pom-pom hats, beanies, and fitted gloves. Sunglasses, such as the Ray-Ban Erikas or chromatic aviators, have also kept up with the changing season.
All in all, this season’s styles are proving once again that it is possible to stay warm and look good this winter—without sacrificing any arms, legs, or toes.
