Guelph customers “egg-cited” for new menu changes
Two of students’ go-to fast-food restaurants, McDonald’s and A&W, will begin to serve all-day breakfast options in February in an effort to satisfy consumers’ growing demand.
The McDonald’s Corporation expects that as of Feb. 21, all of their locations across Canada will be serving breakfast all day; while A&W hopes to achieve the same by Feb. 27.
In an interview with CBC, McDonald’s Canada CEO John Betts, said that the company was bringing in the all-day breakfast in response to customers tweeting that they wished they could purchase breakfast at any time of the day.
Guelph consumers seem to be greeting the news with similar enthusiasm, believing that the restaurants are making a smart business decision.
A&W patron Crystalyn Ketellapper told The Ontarion, “I feel like this is a really smart business move on both A&W and McDonald’s’ parts.”
Ketellapper felt that the inclusion of breakfast items is a great way to draw in customers who would want to order off the traditional breakfast menu later in the day.
Many other customers agreed with this sentiment.
In an interview with The Ontarion, McDonald’s customer Denise Wicks said, “Breakfast food is usually healthier and fast-food restaurants are so convenient. It’s good to hear they’re creating more options for people who might not order their normal menu items or want healthier choices.”
Mishel Tsenz, another frequenter of McDonald’s, stated, “I’m excited for all-day breakfast. I wonder if it’s going to affect the sales on their other items though.”
The change in breakfast serving hours is anticipated by Betts to increase sales since it gives more options to people who may not go to McDonald’s for their burgers.
In the same interview with CBC, Betts stated, “We know we’re going to do well with it,” in regards to the expected sales growth.
The fast-food chain tested out longer breakfast hours in different locations across Canada, such as Vancouver and Toronto, before deciding to make it a nation-wide policy.
Overall, response to the announcement has been positive, and many speculate that other fast-food chains will soon respond with their own all-day breakfast announcements.
Burger King and Tim Hortons, in an article published by Global News, have indicated that they do not intend to extend their breakfast hours. Regardless, fast-food consumers seem satisfied that so far they have a few new options to choose from after noon.
