Habitat for Humanity holds barbeque to thank the community

News in brief

The local Habitat for Humanity chapter held a thank you barbeque on Feb. 25 at the Guelph ReStore location to celebrate the community’s continued support.

Mayor Cam Guthrie attended the barbeque with his family and made a donation to the charitable organization.

All sales and donations from the event will go towards Habitat for Humanity’s community programs aimed at alleviating poverty through affordable homeownership.

According to its website, Habitat for Humanity’s current build project is a 30-unit condo complex called Cityview Village. Still in the planning and development phase, the project is slated to consist of three condominium buildings with eight to 12 units each.

The homes built by Habitat are sold through their home-ownership program which offers interest free mortgages to working families that qualify, but would otherwise be unable to obtain home ownership.
