A mash-up of progressive metal and anthemic pop, the Devin Townsend Project’s Addicted is the kind of album that will have you dancing, head banging, and belting out its extremely catchy tunes at the top of your lungs.
The chugging distorted guitars and growling vocals of Canadian metal legend Devin Townsend, combined with the flawless mezzo-soprano of Anneke van Giersbergen, drive the album into a tailspin of powerful, theatrical hooks from start to finish.
While Townsend is known for his excessively heavy songwriting with Strapping Young Lad in the ’90s, Addicted takes a milder approach, yet still maintains his technical prowess and signature multi-tracking wall of sound.
With equally epic tracks like “Numbered,” “The Way Home,” and “Hyperdrive,” there is no questioning why this 2009 album still makes up 40 per cent of my “Top 25 Most Played” songs on iTunes.
