Sometimes, the best music can be found close to home
For Canada Day, we’re celebrating all things Canadian, including music. In order to facilitate the promotion of Canadian artists, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) requires every Canadian radio station to broadcast a certain percentage of Canadian content (CanCon) during airplay. The percentage of CanCon played varies from 20 to 40 per cent depending on the type of radio show. Songs generally qualify as CanCon if they’re musically or lyrically composed by a Canadian, recorded in Canada, or performed by a Canadian.
Rock out with these indie and alternative tunes on our Spotify playlist “Canadiana,” perfect for your Canada 150 celebrations.
