Take Back the Night takes over Guelph

“I am here, telling all of you my story because Take Back The Night has made a space for my voice. All of us here are creating a culture that rejects the idea that silence and shame is the only course of action for victims. We are creating a culture that demands action against perpetrators and empowerment for victims. We demand safety and bodily autonomy for all people.

We are creating a society that doesn’t see rape as being caused by alcohol, or drugs, or loneliness, or how women dress or act.

We are creating a society that sees rape as being caused by rapists.

And it’s about fucking time.”

-An excerpt from the speech given by U of G alumna Anna Yo at Take Back The Night on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.
