Federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains was on the U of G campus on Feb. 8 to celebrate the completion of six major U of G research projects that received $26 million in support from the federal government while the remaining funds were received from the University or the provincial government.

“This kind of funding support is critical for us to maintain our standing as one of the top comprehensive and research-intensive universities in Canada,” U of Go President Franco Vaccarino said in a news statement published on the U of G website.

Projects included research into bio-degradable plastics used in the auto industry, upgrades to chemistry teaching labs, and creating new study and meeting spaces in the McLaughlin Library.

“Infrastructure upgrades are a critical part in supporting skills development to prepare students for the jobs of today and tomorrow,” Bains said.
