Cheap date ideas for this Valentine’s Day

Spending time together is more important than spending a lot of money on fancy dates

1. Pizza date

Head to the grocery store and pick up some pizza dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese (or whatever kind floats your boat), and your date’s favourite toppings. The whole date should cost under $15 and there’s no need to worry about what else you’re going to do besides eat, because making the pizza is the activity. Enjoy a fun grocery trip together, take a long romantic walk down the produce aisle, and then head home to play some music and have a fun night in at your personal pizzeria.

2. Skating

For a wintery, cost-free date take your partner to the Market Square in beautiful downtown Guelph. You can rent skates or bring your own and impress your date with your skating skills, or use your lack thereof as an excuse to stay close to them, maybe even hold hands if you’re really bad.

3. Go for a walk

Bundle yourselves up and fill a thermos with some kind of hot drink, or grab one from the closest coffee shop, and head out for a walk. Guelph is a hotspot for natural scenery and offers an array of walking trails to choose from. You could also go for a walk through the Arboretum or along the river.

4. Red Brick Cafe

Visit the Red Brick Cafe right here in Guelph and enjoy an array of weekly events including art shows and live music. Along with free entertainment, the cafe offers an extensive menu of low priced meals, perfect for providing a stellar date on a student budget.

5. Salsa dancing

Take your date to Flying Dance Community for a night of salsa dancing, and if you aren’t feeling super confident in your salsa skills enjoy lessons from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.; they offer a special price for students. This will be sure to impress your date and offers a great way to get closer to them.

6. Binge watch and eat

Grab some blankets, make yourselves some huge sundaes with all the toppings you could dream of, and curl up on the couch for a good ol’ movie marathon. Try to decide on the movie before scooping out the ice cream, unless you’re into ice cream soup. If you can’t decide on a movie, I’m sure you’ll find something else to do.
