My Black History Month music
February marks Black History Month in Canada, when Canadians join in celebrating the many contributions and accomplishments of black Canadians. African-American artists often touch on the powerful people who helped shape black history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. From Sam Cooke to Alicia Keys, black power and social change are common themes in such songs. Many artists collaborate to create a new sound together, and advocate the rights and the culture of African-Americans through music. I feel that my top 25 playlist of hip-hop, R&B, and soul music exemplifies the impact of African-American artists in history. If I missed a tune that you feel is important, let us know about it by leaving a comment.
