Local 1334 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing the trades, maintenance and service workers at the University of Guelph, voted to support possible strike action if their negotiating committee deems it necessary in their pursuit of a new collective agreement.

The final result of CUPES 1334’s Feb. 13 vote was 94 per cent in favour of strike action.
“The members are sending a clear message to the University that they support their bargaining team’s priorities and are prepared to take action if needed,” said Janice Folk-Dawson, the Ontario Federation of Labour vice president and 1334’s lead negotiator, in a news release.
Despite CUPE 1334 and the University of Guelph having met on seven occasions in the past year, a collective agreement has yet to be reached.
Both parties are scheduled to resume bargaining talks on Feb. 24.
