Knowing the Facts
The COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing and developing situation. We have compiled a list of updates and information useful to students and members of the University of Guelph community. You can read that list here.
Symptoms and Response
Symptoms of COVID-19 may appear similar to symptoms of a cold or flu, and it is possible to experience few or no symptoms.
After exposure, symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear.
The virus can spread by respiratory droplets during coughing or sneezing, having close personal contact with an infected person, and touching a contaminated surface and then touching your nose, eyes or mouth. It is still unknown whether the virus can be transmitted by someone who is not showing symptoms. Experts believe that it is possible, though it is considered rare.
Everyone is encouraged to practice social distancing by avoiding personal contact with others and avoiding large gatherings.
Symptoms have included:
- fever
- cough
- difficulty breathing
- pneumonia in both lungs
In severe cases, infection can lead to death.
If you start showing symptoms:
- Isolate yourself at home and
