The University of Guelph has named Sharmilla Rasheed as its upcoming vice-president of finance and operations.
Rasheed is currently vice-president of finance and information services and chief financial officer at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph. There, she is in charge of finance, environmental services, information technology, and risk and performance management.
At U of G, Rasheed will similarly be dealing with financial services while also managing human and physical resources, fire prevention and parking services, hospitality services, investment management, and real estate.
“I believe that universities have an integral role in collaborating with healthcare, government and industry to ensure that we have a better world for our children and us,” said Rasheed in a U of G news release. “I am extremely passionate about education and our community and believe we as leaders need to work together to manage our resources effectively and efficiently to ensure that no one is left behind.”
President Charlotte Yates announced Rasheed’s appointment into the U of G family on Oct. 27.
Martha Harley, associate vice-president of human resources, has been filling the spot of vice-president of finance and operations since July 1. Before her was Don O’Leary who retired in August.
Rasheed comes into the role on Dec. 3.
“Sharmilla is a great fit for U of G, and I am delighted to welcome her to the leadership team,” said Yates in the news release.
