In a news release on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the U of G announced that a COVID-19 vaccination clinic is coming to campus and could be operational as early as March.

The clinic is a partnership with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) Public Health and the Guelph Family Health Team (GFHT).

It will be located in the University Centre, and staffed with members of the GFHT in partnership with U of G’s Student Health Services. Depending on supply, it will be capable of vaccinating up to 2,000 people a day, according to the release.

The U of G vaccination centre, which is one of two partner-led immunization clinics planned for the Guelph region, is part of the WDG’s community vaccination plan, which was unveiled the same day.

A number of public health-led clinics will be located in Guelph, Orangeville, and Wellington. There will also be mobile clinics to administer vaccines for rural communities and vulnerable populations.

The clinics should allow for as many as 10,000 vaccines to be administered daily.

WDG Public Health hopes to have at least 75 per cent of the population aged 16 and up vaccinated by August 2021.

At the time of writing, there has been a total of 10,761 vaccination doses administered in the region.
